Holcim to increase cement capacity, introduce building solutions to support Davao development

August 04, 2017

Holcim Philippines Head of Procurement and Logistics Kevin Savory shared the company’s commitment to supporting the development of Davao during the recent investment conference in the city.

Davao can continue to count on building solutions provider Holcim Philippines, Inc. to be a partner in its development, with the company planning to raise cement production and introduce innovative services and materials to help the city put up the essential structures for sustained growth.

These, along with the company’s sustainability initiatives, were shared by Holcim Philippines Head of Procurement and Logistics Kevin Savory during the Davao Investment Conference on July 22.

Savory noted that the company is set to further raise its Davao plant’s cement production capacity, which it had doubled from 700,000 metric tons in the 90s, to support the increase in construction activity in the city and nearby provinces. The Davao expansion is part of Holcim Philippines’s $54 million investment plan to raise its nationwide capacity to 12 million metric tons by 2019 from the present 10 million metric tons.

The Holcim official said the company will introduce construction solutions such as its 24-hour SuperFast-Crete technology for roads to help local contractors build more durable infrastructure faster and within budget. Savory added that more road building solutions will be introduced in Davao and the rest of the country to support the government’s infrastructure program.

Aside from providing building solutions, Savory said Holcim Philippines will roll out new programs to further support the environmental measures and contribute to other areas of Davao’s development. Planned initiatives include increased usage of alternative fuels and raw materials to reduce carbon emissions and help the city to manage waste, lower water consumption and strengthen the safety focus.
